February 2017 was National Children’s Dental Health Month. As we close out the month, we wanted to share a few of our tips and suggestions that can help instill oral health and wellness in children:
- Encourage proper oral habits this includes establishing a regular brushing and flossing routine using flourinated toothpaste
- Fill the lunch box with nutritious, dental-friendly foods like apples, celery, yogurt and milk
- Offer water instead of juice to limit sugar intake and oral bacteria growth. This can also help maintain weight and improve general health and wellness.
- Speaking of water, top off your child’s meal with a glass of water to wash food away when a brush is out of reach
- Have a mouthguard ready to protect your child’s smile during sports and gym activities
Lastly, the American Dental Association (ADA) also provides free educational resources for both educators and parents. This includes fun activity and coloring sheets as well as posters. To view and print, please click here.
