Fillings

A dental filling is a type of restorative dental treatment used to repair minimal tooth fractures, tooth decay or otherwise damaged surfaces of the teeth. Dental filling materials, which can include bonding (white) or amalgam (metal), may also be used to even out tooth surfaces for better biting or chewing.

Dr. Irwin will help you determine what type of filling is right for you.

Bonded Composite (white/tooth-colored) Fillings:

  • Tooth Colored, aesthetically pleasing
  • Made from a resin based composite
  • Mercury free
  • Can have a strengthening effect on teeth
  • Can replace unsightly amalgam (metal) fillings

Amalgam (metal) Fillings:

  • Made up of tin, silver, copper, zinc and mercury
  • Have been used for decades
  • Very durable
  • Can give the tooth a grey appearance due to the color of the filling, itself.
